Get dressing-Pha Khao Ma

One thing a lot of compers bring along on an excursion in the ever-versatile Pha Khao Ma, a type of sarong traditional worn by Thai men. This narrow length of fabric can serve several purposes : as a substitute for a hat during the day, for example; or a bathing suit in the evening; or when dried out, as a blanket. It can be put to numereous other uses, too. Be inventive ! How about as a makeshift bowl, for instance?

Normally, most trekkers just bathe in a stream. But for those times when it's getting dark and you don't wat to venture into deep water on your own, a pha khao ma allows you to wash without runing any risks.

Simply hold one end and dangle the other in the stream. Let the cloth absorb water for a few seconds and then pull it up.

Writing it out and you'll find that your sarong can hold almost as much water as a bowl. Drop it into the stream again when you need more water, and enjoy your shower/sponge bath. If you don't have a pha khao ma, a T-shirt or anything made of lightweight cloth that's not too difficult to squeeze out will do just as well.
